Rony Afif, amazing, talented Dubai musician and all round nice guy, commissioned me to do some portrait photos for him last month. I first heard him play jazz standards with his equally talented brother Elie at the Fridge concert series over a year ago was hooked. I’ve subsequently photographed him playing his regular gig at [...]

Finally some shots from the recent artists shoots one for the Fridge! We had a fun time with four harps in one studio… quite the challenge! The Fabulous Helga Bosman handled the hair beautifully.

Some of my recent work includes a maternity shoot for Mouna Abassy and her gorgeous family. We had a fun two hours of posing with the cute little man – impressive work for a new born! I am particularly enamoured with the shot of grandpa with his grandchild it captures such a feeling of pride [...]

“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” – George Eastman Photography is capturing light, therefore, light is our medium, as a sculptors medium is clay. Without light there is no image, without an [...]

The Fridge had a Fringe concert on Thursday evening with violinist Hugo Ticciati. The concert was imbued with the collaborative, creative and kind spirit of the talented musician, with local artists and dancers amazingly incorporated into the diverse performance. It is such a rare pleasure to be so welcomed as a photographer and I was [...]

These shots are a selection from the Maternity shoot for Hugo and Gui (the pre- part of the new addition to the family shoot!). The post- part has already been posted, so I though it would be nice to show these.

Last week saw me shooting for 7Days newspaper, and one of the assignments was to shoot a child packing their own suitcase. I was lucky to find a gorgeous little model in one of my past student, Yajnesh Rao’s son Shrihan. He was such a star, posing very well for a two and a half [...]

It was great fun shooting this incredible sculpture carved from polystyrene, firstly, because I have worked a lot in the material myself and am interested to learn about the equipment used for this piece, and secondly, because it was like an exercise in portraiture lighting techniques, with the shadows contrasting beautifully on the white surface [...]

Drama Dubai presented me with a really interesting, talented group of actors to shoot this June. We had a lot of fun and some great, expressive shots were the outcome.

The first portfolio shoot in my new studio space. Terribly exciting! Usman is a tall, handsome Indian lad from Abu Dhabi who was given the shoot as a gift by his employers. Hopefully we can get him some commercial work. He was fantastic in front of the camera, if a little shy at first.

One of my favourite subjects to photograph are actors. They are always a lot of fun to shoot. What follows is a selection of the actors head shots taken for the Desert Monologues acting workshop run by Drama Dubai. Their website features an actor database of local talent in Dubai. Their next workshop is starting [...]

These images are a selection of my own photos of our model Tareq during the Portraiture with Ambient Light workshop. All the photos were taken on location at the Mugrudy’s Head offices utilising any natural light that was available throughout the day to demonstrate the abundance of beautiful light that is available and the creative [...]

These are the first images take on arriving back to Dubai with my new 70-200mm f2.8 lens in January. Thanks to my cat, Pumpkin for posing so beautifully. The lens is quite a handful, being rather heavy and on the large side, but what clarity and accuracy! I am just so thrilled with it. And [...]

I met up with Cool’s the Rule, a jazz band from Abu Dhabi at their regular Friday night gig at the Novotel Abu Dhabi for this shoot. We did a combination of some set portraits and performing shots. It was challenging as the space was quite small and very dimly lit. So I ended up [...]

Finally! My first post of 2011! It has been an extremely busy year so far. With a number of band shoots, portrait shoots, Corporate Editorial shoots, wedding shoot meetings, charity shoots with K9 Friend puppies, workshops and a lot of admin and editing. To start with my catching up I thought I’d post some of [...]

I recently held a workshop for Canon Middle East about profile photographs and social media, using their new Ixus range. It was a really fun, interesting day with great participation from the audience and good feedback. I thought I’d write a post on the subject and offer some advice on profile photography for social media [...]
